About Tulgeen
Inspiring an inclusive, connected, and caring community
Tulgeen Disability Services has been a pillar of support and empowerment for people with disabilities in the Bega Valley for over four decades. Our story began in the mid-1970s when Bob Westmacott reached out to Grosvenor Hospital in Sydney, seeking assistance in establishing much-needed facilities for people with disabilities in the Bega area. Since then, we have grown to become the premier disability services provider in the Bega Valley Shire.
Our mission is to provide people with disabilities the opportunity and choice to fully participate in their communities, realise their potential, and lead fulfilling, abundant lives. We are passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of our clients and their families, and we are dedicated to delivering a range of services and supports to all National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants.
At Tulgeen, we pride ourselves on offering high-quality, person-centred services that are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual we support. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our core values:
Inclusivity: We create connected and caring environments that foster a sense of belonging.
- Innovation: We continuously strive to develop and implement responsive solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients.
- Flexibility: Our adaptable approach ensures that our services can accommodate a wide variety of circumstances and preferences.
- Empowerment: We respect the autonomy of each person we support, encouraging them to take charge of their lives.
- Collaboration: We work closely with clients, families, and other stakeholders to deliver accountable and effective services.
- Transparency: Our ethical practices and open communication build trust and confidence in our organisation.
- Sustainability: We are dedicated to providing responsible and sustainable services that stand the test of time.
At Tulgeen Disability Services, our unwavering commitment to these values shapes every aspect of our work, driving us to make a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of the people we serve.
Our Story
Where It All Began
Tulgeen Disability Services has been a champion for people with disabilities in the Bega Valley for more than four decades. Our journey started in the mid-1970s, when our visionary founder, Bob Westmacott, reached out to the Grosvenor Hospital in Sydney. His mission? To garner support and assistance in creating much-needed facilities for individuals with disabilities in the Bega area.
From our humble beginnings in 1977, operating just one day a week at 26 Eden St Bega with the help of dedicated volunteers, Tulgeen has come a long way. Click to explore our inspiring story and learn how we've grown to become the leading disability services provider in the region.
International Year of People with Disability in 1981 saw Tulgeen as the forerunner in the State with its program including school children in the daily participation of the Centre.
